Project Description

This project requires you to create a professional engineering resume and portfolio that showcases your skills, experiences, and projects completed during the course. These documents will be valuable tools for internship and job applications.

  • Understand what employers look for in engineering candidates
  • Create a portfolio that demonstrates your technical abilities
  • Prepare for the co-op and job search process

Project Components

Part 1: Engineering Resume (70 points)

Create a one-page professional resume that includes:

  • Contact Information: Name, phone, email, LinkedIn profile
  • Education: University, degree program, expected graduation, GPA
  • Technical Skills: Software, programming languages, tools
  • Projects: Course projects (including LEGO project), personal projects
  • Experience: Work experience, internships, volunteer work
  • Activities: Student organizations, leadership roles, honors

Part 2: Engineering Portfolio (80 points)

Create a portfolio document (3-5 pages) that includes:

  • Cover Page: Professional title page with your name and contact information
  • About Me: Brief professional biography and career objectives
  • Project Showcase: Documentation of 2-3 significant projects including:
    • Project description and objectives
    • Your role and responsibilities
    • Technical approach and methodology
    • Results and outcomes
    • Photos, diagrams, or screenshots
  • Skills and Competencies: Detailed list of technical and soft skills

Resume Guidelines

  • Use a clean, professional format with consistent formatting
  • Limit to one page (strictly enforced)
  • Use action verbs (designed, developed, analyzed, created, etc.)
  • Quantify achievements when possible
  • Proofread carefully for grammar and spelling errors
  • Use standard fonts (Times New Roman, Arial, Calibri) 10-12pt
  • Save as PDF for submission

Portfolio Guidelines

  • Professional appearance with consistent branding
  • High-quality images and graphics
  • Clear and concise technical writing
  • Demonstrate breadth and depth of skills
  • Include the LEGO Mindstorms project as one showcase
  • Save as PDF for submission
